MY WORK

I INTERVIEWED AT A COOL AD AGENCY RECENTLY AND THEY THOUGHT MY RESUME NEEDED MORE EXCITEMENT. I AGREE.

Here’s a more palatable version. If you’re determined to see the adjective-stuffed version, click here.

the entry level years (now)

I moved to Ft. Lauderdale two years ago to add some real world copywriting experience to my degree.

I originally planned to get experience that I could later use to find summer work as a high school teacher, but I’ve enjoyed writing and managing social media campaigns too much to career hop. This is the industry I want to stay in and here are a few of the accomplishments I’ve made during the last two years.

WRITING

  • Wrote copy for countless newsletters, landing pages, jumpsites, press releases and more
  • Got promoted from Jr. Copywriter to Lead Copywriter
  • Landed guest post opportunity for ProBlogger (listed as #16 on Ad Age’s Power 150) from my personal blog

SOCIAL MEDIA

SEO

  • Went from “What’s SEO?” to avidly learning the basics of SEO tactics and using this knowledge to  help improve my company’s SEO strategy

the grad school year

During my grad school trial, I added two journal publications to my portfolio. I also wrote several boring papers about managerial accounting and corresponded to University donors on behalf of the Vice President for Advancement. Donate $1 million to your alma mater? You get a letter of acknowledgment ghost written by a 22-year-old and signed by the VP. Just FYI. Click on the links below to see samples of my work from the grad school year.

the college years

I made my college beer money by writing articles for the Florida Today community sports section. I loved this gig because I met interesting people and wrote articles about budding youth sport protégés. As you can imagine, my work was posted on refrigerators and stored in scrapbooks. It was fun.
